Repairing Cedar Siding

We have a older house built in 1911 with an addition in the 1970s. Currently there is 1.25 inch cedar siding on the house. over the last few months, cracks have developed in the face of the boards and gaps where there lap each other. The worst of the damage is on the south and west sides of the house. I have been slowly caulking the siding and the plan was to prime and paint when I was done. I noticed today that cracks are still showing up in both new areas and areas that I have caulked. I am using DAP caulking for windows and siding. It has been warmer than usual lately and I am wondering if that is playing a role in the cracking (old and new).

I used to use Dap all the time but lately I think the Sherwin Williams caulk is better.
