repainting over enamel painted door

I want to repaint my metal back door. I painted it with enamel paint a few years ago and it had a few drips and ripples in it. Do I need to sand the ripples so that the new paint will look smooth?

Yes - sand the ripples and give the entire door a light sanding and good cleaning. I am assuming by enamel you are referring to an oil based paint. With that being said, if you hit bare metal I would just spot prime and once that dries give another coat of oil based enamel. Be careful of the humidity - if it is anything like NY right now it's not a good day to paint.

Thanks Mazzo. You answered my question. I am in Oklahoma and it has rained a bit, but it is supposed to be dry next week.
