Repainting concrete

I have a brand new house and the builder painted the basement concrete floor with what appears to be a bland grey latex paint.

I want to repaint a section of the floor to a gloss black color. Can I simply clean the floor and repaint over it with another latex based concrete paint or will it require extensive prep work even though I'm using latex again?

You do know black will show every speck of dirt right? Even foot prints will show up.

As well as dog hair from our Samoyed. I explained that to the wifey but she wants what she wants :/ It's going to be a home salon so it will get swept frequently.

May as well ask her what other color she would like and also buy that one so you can save money on gas making a second trip when black does not work out. lol

I would use this if latex is on there now. It comes in many factory colors. Painting a tile pattern or something might make the dirt and footprints Joe mentions not quite so obvious as on a solid gloss black floor. It will take you some patience, extra time and some painter's tape.

Definitely look for urethane or epoxy reinforcement in the floor paint you buy.

Another reason for using a black color is to hide color spills. I'll check out the suggestions. Any suggestions on the prep?
