Repainting aluminum siding - 2 part question

Sorry if the first part is already covered in another thread, I did a quick search and couldn't find anything. I'm repainting a small area of aluminum siding on the front of my house. A good portion of the original paint was flaking off, which I scraped thoroughly, removing all of the loose stuff.

1) should I scrape all of the paint or just the stuff that is flaking off? I left everything that is still well bonded to the siding and wasn't coming off easily. Planning on attacking the job with a fine nap roller and brush. Will it be noticeable once painted that not everything was scraped?

2) more of an opinion question... see pic. The triangle of siding above the front door is what I'm painting white (if you zoom in you can still see the loose paint). Would it look good if I also paint white the small area of trim that goes the length of the house, underneath the gutters and above the stone veneer or will it look odd? It's sort of an off-white now, matches the veneers well, but I imagine it was at one point, brighter white, matching the siding and windows. Whaddaya think?

Aluminum is forgiving as long as you don't use a high gloss........go with a Satin latex. Make sure it's clean & there is no chalkiness on the surface. If you scraped and are satisfied, well, don't push too hard for perfection, but, if you want to LIGHTLY sand what you scraped to feather things out, go ahead and do that. I would just paint the triangular area an off white. If you go across the whole front of the house above the veneer, I think your house will look a bit choppy if you were to do it in a bright white.

Like Gymshu says. As he suggests it needs to be clean. If the aluminum has been exposed for any length of time you will need to get any oxidation or effluence off it with something like Aluminum Naval Jelly (be sure and neutralize the reaction per label instructions). Then I would apply a bonding primer under the paint to be safe.

I could go either way on the siding and facia color. I think they should be the same. It looks like you have a stark white door and white window trim that might stick out more if you go with an off-white.

Do not use too thin nap of roller or you will not put on enough paint film thickness.

A bit of an update... I come home this evening and some of the areas where I thought the paint was bonded well are now peeling. We had some heavy heavy rain after I scraped the loose pain off yesterday. Guess that means I"m scraping the whole thing this weekend. Not too bad, it's about 50% done already.
