repainting aluminum siding

Aluminum siding paint is chalking and coming off. I am thinking powerwash , scrub with a scour pad rewash and prime/paint.

What should I use to wash, and what should I use for primer/paint?
Any primer -paint combo that will adhere well?

also

I am planning on buying a sprayer, one that I can use with a 5 gal bucket. What is a good one in the 200-300$ price range?

Honey-do list is quite long this year............

Thanks for your help!

I'd clean it with TSP, rince off well and use Sherwin Williams Duration or Super paint.

There is spray painer in the $300.00 range that would be worth buying to paint a whole house.
Unless you know how to spray I'd stick to a roller and a 2-1/2 sash brush.
Your going to spend more time learning how to use it, masking, cleaning it then it's worth.

Many threads on cheap sprayers too. If you only need one for this project, rent a highend model. Don't buy a lowend, mostly plastic, toy garage ornament.

As for primer? Has the aluminum siding paint peeled completely off and you have oxidation of the metal to deal with? If so, you will want to get all that off and TSP will not do the trick. Aluminum Naval Jelly comes to mind but it is expensive in small amounts. AI fine wire brush comes to mind too.

Once the oxidation and effluence is out of your way, a quality self-etching primer for aluminum should be in your project plans.
