what is the best method? I'd like to avoid a lot of sanding becuase it may remove some of the detail in the molding. I also have to be somewhat concerned about avoiding harsh solvents on the glass, since it's coated.
I am ashamed to admit it, but I brushed on minwax polyshades (supposed to be a stain/poly combo) on the window over the weekend. Theoretically, it should have been a walnut stain, and the poly should have gone on smoothly. Reality? well, it's just brown poly. It doesn't stain anything. It doesn't look anywhere NEAR a walnut stain (like our other woodwork). the color in the poly is very light, almost reddish, and serves merely to enhance any streaks in the finish. A complete disaster. Shocking that a short-cut product would cause a less than optimal result, huh?
Please advise on what the best manner to procede may be. (In the end, I'd ideally like to strip it to bare wood, and stain with a traditional walnut stain, and then maybe follow it up with varnish or a coat of clear poly.....)
thanks.....
