Remove patterned paint?

The previous owners painted around bookshelves that we have now removed. There is drywall and patterned paint now on several walls. Is there any way to remove the patterned paint to get back down to the drywall? It's a very thick patterning and I don't think trying to do patterned paint over it will ever match up.

Thank you for any insight you can provide!

I'm not sure what you mean by pattern paint, I assume you mean a texture paint.

If that's the case, try to sand them smooth. if that is too much work then you gotta skim coat the walls.

How thick is the texture? Sand, popcorn, knockdown? You can skim coat the walls(lots or work) You can hang liner paper or canvas and paint that. Or hang a heavy fabric backed vinyl wallcovering.
