refinishing/painting a <fiberglass?> shower's floor
so I was at home depot and saw this $30 product (seemed like a fancy can of spray epoxy in a box lol) that supposedly makes your scratched shower bottom new again.
Any truth to that?
Furthermore, any products that'll do it for less than $30? In all honesty, if a standard gloss white epoxy spray paint for $5 would work for a year or two it'd still be worthwhile imo lol!!
I've never seen or even heard of those HD/L "bath painting kits" that worked as advertised for any longer than a few weeks (well, I think one went a few months)
I have seen what's left after they fail, and it's a freakin' mess that I have to sub out to specialists (for waaaaaaay more than $30) to fix properly
damn really!? Just on these fiberglass tubs? What's the mess that's left over, I figured the worst case would be it wears away and the old white starts showing through...
Yeah I know I sound like an old fart dissing the easy sounding solutions
But really, I've seen and heard nothing but bad stuff about those kits
It doesn't wear so much..it doesn't have time
It peels off and looks horrible
But it doesn't all come off, parts of it hang on
It's almost impossible to DIY the removal of the rest at that point
That makes it even more expensive to call in the specialists, as they now have to fix the mess before even beginning to do what they do best
The lucky ones it all fails in one big mess...those aren't so bad
But still...why bother
There are some modern modified epoxies that would stick, but they are not DIY friendly
You might try a SW or BM store and see what they have for "industrial coatings"
That's the name they carry the good stuff under...see what they have available in your area
It'll be more than 30 bucks...but it'll be better than that other stuff
