I purchased a home with a deck that was stained a very dark brown are there any options out there to change to a lighter Color stain or possibly the deck restore product
If you want to maintain a transparent stained look, the only option is to strip the dark stain off and re stain with a lighter color.
If you don't mind a solid (opaque) look, there are a lot of options. Unless your deck is very old and cracked, Restore type products are probably not the best option.
Before you do anything to it its important to find out what product (or at least whether it is oil or water base) is on the wood now.
If its an oil stain, like many deck stains are, a solid color oil (or oil modified) deck stain can be used over the top of it. These products come in nearly any color so going lighter would not be a problem, although it might take two coats.
As with any deck, the prep work is the most important part of a successfully staining job.
