Reduce paint chipping?

I need some advice please. My mother is disabled and I am going to paint hallways in her home. My mom is in a wheelchair
and she chips the paint when going through the doors. I cannot afford to have bigger doorways put in. Do anyone have any suggestions? I am planning on painting again but I want to use something that will not chip as easily. :)

Hi Libby Libby

Their is not to much you can do to stop a wheelchair from chipping paint on wood. Metal hitting wood will win. An epoxy type floor paint might offer extra protection to the surface, however wood be very difficult to ever strip again in the future. By best advice would be to repaint with a high quality interior paint then keep extra on hand for periodic touchups to help keep it looking fresh. If you have many layers of paint you also might want to consider stripping first.

just an extra note. for any rooms that she accesses that you don't need a door, removing the door from its hinges and storing it you can increase the access into the room by about 2". many furniture movers commonly do this. (obviously this is not practical for the bathroom)

chipping paint

Thank you for the advice. As far as the paint, I plan on purchasing a better paint this time, I am not sure how much good it will do but I definately will give it a try. I like for my mom's home to look clean and tidy. I haven't yet taken off any door's off their hinges but I have considered it. I think that it is a good idea. Thanks again MgMopar!
