re-texture after wallpaper removal
I am going to re texture my bathroom with thinned joint compound and a roller for textured walls. I had removed the wallpaper from the bathroom -- it was only on one wall and trim. I want to re texture the whole room due to some required repairs on the wall, add a bit more texture and to have a consistent texture in the whole room -to big a job for spray can texture. Its been a long time since this room was painted...Should I prime the walls before I texture with joint compound?

Not a great plan.
Reasons being, a textured wall is near impossible to properly clean, a pain to paint, will form lot's of places for mold to grow, the hot moist air in the bathroom can cause it to start to fail, really hard to patch if there's every any wall damage.
If you go back and look at some of the older post on this site and all the other DIY sites you will hundreds of people asking how to get texture off the walls and ceiling, not how to apply it.

Gotta go with Joe on this one. Texture not the best option for a answer your, you will not need to prime if there is sound paint on the one textured wall. Texture right over it.

I will chime in and agree with not texturing a moist environment wall also. Increasing the surface area just gives mold, mildew and algae more to grow on.

If you have severe cracks or something a product like Nu-Wall might be worth considering. It is a membrane and resin system that provides a new surface over cracks.

If your repairs are minor and you can patch and sand the surface smooth that is the way to go. Prime patched areas of course.
