Priming after wall paper removal

Hi

I have few paint projects ahead of me.

1. I will try to skim coat plaster walls with magic trowel. Putting thinned joint compound on the wall with a roller and then going over it with the trowel.
2. In two rooms I need to remove wallpaper from the plaster walls then skim coat and then pain.

My questions are

1. I read that I should paint the plaster with semi gloss paint prior to skim coating with the joint compound for better adhesion? Any experience with this step?

2. After I skim coat the rooms that had wallpaper what type of a primer I should use? Should I use an Oil based primer to seal the surfaces or should I can I use Gardz primer? My consern with oil based primer is the fact that I have to wait 12-24 hours for it to dry before painting.

Thanks,

# 1 I never head of that, but it does not sound right to me. The semi gloss surface would be pretty glossy for your compound to stick too.

#2 Gardz is correct.
