Primer wont stick to semi glossed wainscoting?? best way to remove primer?

i made the mistake of not scuffing first.

Previous paint is latex i checked the old cans. I applied primer then 2 days later when i went to paint walls i dripped some paint onto the wainscoting when i went to wipe it with damp cloth all the primer came off on that spot.

So how do i remove all the primer now wood stripper or sand it all down??

thx

Key question and piece of info, one would think it would be supplied without asking.
Joe, sand it? Tisk, tisk.

If it wipes off with a damp cloth just wipe it off. But the key is still what primer did you use?

I'll assume you have not worked with stripper. No it will be neither quicker or easier. With out starting an argument try another brand of primer such as 123.

If the other primer is not sticking it will need to come off. Primer is your bonding agent if it is wiping off then it is not bonded to the surface. I would wipe off all I could then scuff sand then the other primer. I would check to see if it is just coming off the wainscote or if it's coming off everywhere. Was the wainscote painted before? Are you sure it's not the vinyl coated waincote?

yes its been painted before. seems to be wood dunno how to check if its vinyl coated.

Should i just sand it or wet it with a spray bottle and use a scraper. when i wet it slightly and and used a power sander it was coming off in chunks. i dunno what the best method would be ....

Might take a little experimentation on your part to see what works best. Don't expect a magic bullet- it's going to take some work.
Try hotish water and a rough scrubbie ( a stripping scrubbie from a paint store/ paint dept is the roughest one I know of)

Should we not recommend that he wait a couple of days to be sure the primer will not bond with the cure, remember, some primers take 4-5 days to fully bond. However, should it not be a bonding primer, it might be harder to remove at that time. This is fine kettle of fish. OP, what primer did you use, specifically, by name. Behr what?
