prime then texture or texture then prime
Just wondering what order to follow. New drywall application do I prime then texture or texture then prime?

Hi there, I have found it best to always prime before doing any texture wall or ceilings.
Its the best way to insure an even finish, remember to always prime when doing any patchwork with drywall
textured or not

would you also then prime the texture before painting?

Not to highjack but has anyone ever had problems with priming and then doing a knockdown texture? I have read that if you prime the walls first and then do a knockdwon it can smear? Any truth to that? Thanks

Hi, It can smear somewhat, it has to do with the how thick or thin your texture is applied, I have had some luck in the past to spray one room, wait and test a small area, knock it down and respray over again kind of a 2nd coat and blend it all in then knock it down, it has alot
to do with timing and drying conditions, but you can also spray without primer it will dry faster where it has been taped and finished. It is
always best to prime all drywll work

What can happen to the texture if the drywall isn't primed first? I skipped that step and just primed the texture. I have a skip trowel texture where the entire drywall is covered in a thin layer of plaster veneer with a trowel.

What's the rule of thumb for a ceiling? Same way? ...knockdown, not popcorn.
