Prep work for exterior painting

Posted a thread yesterday about some nails popping a little on the west and
south side of my house. Some how it got moved to home improvements. I am
sure some of you painters have run across this when prepping for a paint job,
I'll rephrase my problem, the paint is cracking around the nail head on some
of the nails on the west and south side of my house, how do you guys take
care of this problem before you paint

I drive them in with a hammer. If the crack is big enough rub some caulk into it.
