Pre-Primed Siding

So I'm painting a garage with pre primed Hardieboard type siding. The contractor said it was fine to just hit it with finish coat. I was skeptical since I figured the primer was bottom dollar junk, plus it has been installed for at least 6 months. Now my question is, I bought SW Duration paint, which is supposedly self-priming, do you think that the combination of pre primed boards and self priming paint is enough? OR should it be primed anyway? Time IS a factor, but I don't want to be doing 3 coats of finish or have the paint sheet off in a few years.

Thanks for helping a new guy, I searched but couldn't find my specific problem.

Pre-Primed Siding

I've done it both ways........I have primed HP with SW's Loxon masonry primer to ensure a nice finish.......and, I have cheated before (so to speak) and simply painted over some HP that was pre-primed & was out in the weather for 6 months. Both jobs were 3 to 4 years ago and still look great. Did I just luck out? Perhaps. To be on the safe side, gently clean the HP, allow to dry, apply some Loxon primer and 2 finish coats.......then you will know you covered all your bases.

Pre-Primed Siding

Thanks for the tip. Does that primer need to be back rolled on HP or can it just be sprayed?

Always best to backroll in my opinion.
