Power Paint Roller Recommendation - Home Use
Anybody have any recommendations for a powered paint roller? I hope to spend less than $100. I've seen some models at Home Depot, but saw that they can only handle 1 gal fills at one time. They don't hook into the 5 gallon buckets. Are these 1 gal types portable, meaning if I need to climb a ladder? I plan to paint many rooms including a 2 story foyer.
I really do not want to consider a sprayer.
That's a tough call. The drawback of the power rollers is that supplies are expensive, the selection of supplies is poor, cleanup is messy, and the power painting equipment available at Home Depot really isn't that good. I don't think they can be fitted to standard extension poles, so it probably won't be of any help in that foyer.
The fact that it won't feed from a fiver isn't that big of a deal, as you can always take a short break to pour from a 5 into a single.
However, you are correct in not wanting a sprayer. The ones sold at HD are junk, you can't afford a decent one (($400-$500, minimum), and won't save any time as a novice.
Not for less than $100
Absolutely not worth the investment for an occasional painter
The cheap ones at HD are junk, the good ones aren't cheap and not worth investing in unless one is doing massive square footage a week
Also, they do have a learning curve and a novice won't save much time, and clean-up is a bear
Seriously reconsider and get a quality roller, sleeves, some posi-lock poles, and a good step ladder
Much better investment of $100
Thanks for the unbiased opinions. I've been through a lot of pain already, don't need anymore.
I have a cheap one from Campbell Hausfeld. It's about 7 years old. I've used it for over 100 gallons so far, never had a problem! Only replaced the roller cover, Still works perfect. Saves a TON of time, and a TON of wear and tear on your back from bending down to load a conventional roller. I can roll out an entire 3 bedroom apartment in 2 hours. Cutting in the corners takes another 6 hours with a brush. If I ever had more than one room to paint, I would spend another $75 to replace mine if it broke.
Worth every penny...
