Pittsburgh Paint - I was impressed

So I am painting my girlfriends new house for her. She picked a medium-dark purple to go in two rooms. I know, I don't pick the colors, I just paint um. My local Benjamin Moore dealer has been trying to get me to try the new Pittsburgh Paint they carry. I finally caved in and got some. Well, the first room was originally a light brown/beige and it covered it very well in one coat. The second room was yellow and it almost covered that in one coat. I was very impressed. The color and sheen were even and the stuff flowed real nice. If you want to save a couple bucks over the higher priced Benjamin Moore, that is the stuff to use.

???:confused1::confused1::confused1: I was wondering the same thing.

BM stores can carry Pittsburgh if they want. I know BM makes a big fuss to their dealers about how much percentage of their inventory has to be BM. If they have too much of another brand BM threatens to pull their product line from the store. Sounds scary on paper. In reality most of the BM dealers around here carry a fair bit of other paint lines, often more than they carry of BM. I asked one about this and he said BM could have their paint back if they wanted it. BM prices are too high to compete for some types of projects, thus the need for a lower priced brand. As a result, BM sulked about it a bit but they haven't pulled their product line. What it comes down to is BM stores are locally owned. It's up to the owner to decided what he puts in his store and BM can't really do much about it. If there were 4 BM stores in the same town they might actually pull the line, but they'd only hurt themselves that way.

We have a Pittsburgh Paint Store here. Then We have BM stores, Sw stores. MAB, BLP, ICI, ACE. All of them sell exclusively their own brands of paint. Well i don't know about MAB now that SW bought them.

Company stores are different. They'll sell only their brand, or in SW stores they may carry some product from brands they own. Our local one sells Duron out of the back room now. Ace around here carries Ace and P&L. In some places Ace carried Ben Moore. I personally carry P&L, Davis, Sampson, Douglas, Richards, Sikkens, Flood, and whatever else I need.

SW bought Duron a couple years ago.

Yeah I know. We were a Duron dealer. Spent 30 years building the brand up in this area and suddenly SW buys them and takes them away. Now the local SW stores is selling Duron to my old customers that didn't want to switch brands.

Too bad. I never had any luck with service at the local SW but the Duron store was always there for me with answers and good service.

From what I've been hearing from my P&L rep (part of SW as well) he's been hearing rumors that SW may shut down all Duron company stores and merge their products into existing SW stores.

Tkat's really going to suck:(. I guess it will be time to go back to the BM dealer which has moved 5 miles out of town.

The good paints...

The upper-levels of Pittsburgh are very good. That goes for ANY brand of paint though!

We're kind of a unique ACE store...
Got the ACE-Royal obviously, but also Ralph-Lauren & C2.

Both P&L and BM are in ACE's warehouse's.
We could've added either of these, but there's nothing unique.
We took on C2 for our "Ultra-Premium" line...glad we did!!

Sikkens and Penofin rule the roost here for our stains!!

Another Fargo, ND person here...?!?!?

 Wow! Someone else from Fargo...small world here!

Can't answer that directly here I'm guessing, cuz' that would seem like soliciting business thru a public forum/website.

People commonly search paint-brands though...vague hint there! :whistling2:
