picking colors??

we are planning on re-painting the outside of our house.
what is the best way to choose a color?
is there a software that is available that i could upload a digital photo to see how different colors look.
is it worth hiring a color consultant to recommend colors?
any advice is appreciated.
thanks.

A company in New Zealand offers a free paint program that is easy to use. Go to: www.resene.co.nz/ezypaintoriginal/main.htm

It works by you loading a picture of your your home or room, then tracing around features, and then applying the paint colors from their numerous palettes. Works very well. Companies here in the U.S charge for thier programs and I hear the work the same way.

You won't be able to order their paints here in the U.S, but it will give you an idea of what looks good. Note: You still need paint swatches and real lighting with any program to really pick your colors.

For the same $10 Benjamin Moore will recommend colors for you if you aren't feeling confident.

IMO the colors are going to look a lot different on your computer screen vs the actual paint. We spent 30 bucks buying sample quarts and painted on, best money we ever spent.
