peeling/flaking paint over stain

been in my house 6yrs looks like homeowner painted over all the trimm and doors wich were stained with latex paint, now all is chipping and peeling. I'm assuming they didnt sand and primer prior to painting. how do i fix? I repainted kitchen and trim so I scraped sanded and touched up with filler to even out were the paint chipped off, then primered and painted was this ok? have a better suggestion?

That's the way to do it. Just make sure you use a good primer and top coat.

Given that you may have an oil-based varnish or poly over the stained trim, my first choice would be a solvent based alkyd primer because it is a great equalizer. Second choice would be a high quality bonding latex primer. I personally would not use either the Valspar or the Bullseye. I would use something like Benjamin Moore's Fresh Start (either alkyd or latex) primers. MAB's Superbond Primer is good. Sherwin Williams (especially now that MAB is a SW company) will have something equivalent to these.
