peeled ceiling paint off, how to fix?

i sprayed a popcorn ceiling in my master bedroom, and i wanted the edge of the ceiling to be flat, so i taped off the ceiling about 3 inches in all around the room, then sprayed the ceiling and peeled the tape off. the ceiling paint came right off in a majority of spots.

i am fully aware that there are several reasons why this may have happened, but i'm not sure how to get this flat edge around the ceiling any other way.

for now, i really just want to know what the possible ways to fix this would be? do i have to fill and sand the areas where the paint peeled off? if so, what filler is appropriate to use as a filler?

the original ceiling had popcorn about 30 years old, which i scraped down, then primed with one coat of kilz general purpose, then used one coat of a flat latex ceiling paint, i believe it was valspar, the purple coloured stuff.

thanks.

Run your fingure over the peeled spot if it's not smooth or level with the ceiling then fill it with spakle, or joint compound. Sand it smooth until its level with the ceiling this may require several coats. Then prime w/ kills oil primer adheres better, but if u already where using latex just stick with that. Tape wall off then paint. www.dndpainters.com or call a professional!
