Patio Door Staining

Can you stain the interior side of a vinyl sliding patio door? And does it wear well?

There is no grain as with wood so you cannot stain it literally.

You might experiment with a gel stain.

Or you could try a high bond primer or plastic primer followed by a fi fi foo foo faux faux paint and glaze technique with a wood graining tool.

Could use a wood grain adhesive vinyl tape or other applique I suppose.

Hard to say how well it would hold up. Would depend on how prone it is to being nicked by shoes or its exposure to temperature extremes and uv exposure.

Make sure you prep it carefully whatever you try.

Faux finishing will be the system that will work. To get a professional tromp l'oeil (sp?) wood grain look, hire a professional. Wood-graining is an art not easily mastered.

Don't be the victim who tells his guest, "I did this myself!"
The guest replies, "I kinda guessed that..."
