Painting white wooden loft railing
We recently built a new wood railing in our loft and we would like to paint them white. We're currently using a regular paint brush and a quality white paint but it's not an easy process. It's tough to fill in gaps with the paint and the paint drips easily down the spindles.

Is it possible to use some type of spray paint on the entire job instead? They go straight across our loft and it would be possible for us to hang some plastic to catch the excess spray. Or, are we going about it correctly by using a paint brush? It's really a lot of work. We are happy to take any professional advice we can get. Thanks!

with a quality paint, adequate work lighting and a good eye for drips, you shouldn't be having problems. what brand paint?

Spray is always good, but besides the issue of covering items that you do not want painted you must also ventilate the room well to exhaust the paint over spray and fumes. Filling gaps may be done with a trim touch up roller. These are about 2" long and 1/2" in diameter. Or try a foam brush and just dab the areas. Do not use too much paint on the brush.

Thanks to you both for your reply. I'm not sure the name of the paint but we've used it alot throughout our home and have been happy. The toughest part is that being that it is a loft railing, you can only reach one side easily without grabbing a ladder to paint the other side.

I like the idea of using a foam brush to fill in gaps. That sounds much easier than trying to put too much paint on the brush which leads to drips.
