painting white over cream

I Want To Paint Over A Room That Has Just Been Painted Cream But I Have Decided I Don't Like It Can I Just Paint It White Without Doing An Undercoat?

Hi Rach14, welcome. Yes, you can paint right over the existing cream. I would give it a light scuff sanding prior though, especially if it's been more than 3-4 days since. I have to ask, why is Every Word's First Letter Capitalized? I Almost Said In Jeopardy Fashion, What Is A Country Western Tune. lol

Under normal circumstances a quick scuff sand and wipe off will be more than adequate. What sheen is the cream?

no idea why every 1st letter is in capital I think the computer I was using yesterday must have done it automatically??

BTW the cream paint is 2 months old we just bought the place and it had been freshly painted (I think water base paint) but it is a really yellowish cream and most of our furniture in the kids rooms is white so we just want to repaint the bedrooms white (I wish we could do the whole house but we are DIY to save money and I am pregnant so my husband is going to be doing it all himself so 2 bedrooms will probably be all he will manage at this stage). So given that it is 2 months old will it still only need a light sanding?

Also, we have 11 litres of white paint left over from when we painted our last place that is 2 years old will this still be okay to use? It has been stored in original tin in a cool underground garage.

I saw another post with the same phenomenon. Yes, you will still need to sand, else the paint will not bond properly long term. The paint you have stored will be fine.
