Painting white kitchen cabinets
I have just hired someone to paint my kitchen cabinets. Looking for any suggestions. He said he will paint them with melanine paint. Is this the best way to go. My cabinets are original, have not been painted since they were installed in this house. They have a very nice finish on them now, shiny but not too much. How can I get the same effect or is this posible.
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Melamine paint is sort of a liquid plastic and it is the way to go if the cabinets are melamine to start with as it is formulated to stick to such things.
I would be inclined to use a high quality, 100 percent acrylic, latex semi-gloss if the cabinets are not melamine or a laminate of some kind unless you have special needs to scrub your cabinets on a regular basis.
Melamine finishes can be really nice but they tend to chip if you bang into them and it is then hard to blend in those chips when you paint again. You are more or less committed to melamine finishes once you start with them.
It sounds like the person you hired knows what he/she is doing since he knows about melamine finishes in the first place. If you are not sure, get references. Otherwise trust the person.
