Painting Wall With Chair Rail

Want to paint wall with chair rail using two different colors on either side of the chair rail. Chair rail will be painted the same color as the baseboard trim. The doorways do not have casing around them so the chair rail ends with a return about an a half inch of wall space between the end of the chair rail to the doorway. Does anyone have a suggestion how this half inch space should be handled in relation to where the different color paints should meet?

Yeah, not much you can do. Just split the difference with a nice straight line.

I use an artist brush for areas such as this.

Re: Painting Wall With Chair Rail

Hi ColDave,
In my opinion, the bottom color should line up with the bottom edge of the rail, and the top color should occupy that space. I think splitting the difference looks like you "tried too hard". But this is just an opinion and personal preference!

Good luck,
