Painting Trim?

Hello,
I am attempting to paint my existing door trim and have read that you should lightly sand it before applying the paint. When I did that the paint started to peal off like a sticker. It is know beginning to get pretty time consuming trying to get all the paint off the trim. What should i do? I can send picks if need be to show exactly what is happening.
Thanks

If the existing paint is peeling off then you need to take it all off
Then prime the door
Then paint

If you paint over paint that is peeling the new paint may very well peel right off

Thank you. What is an easy way to do that. I have been sanding it buy hand and it seems to be extreamly time consuming.

There's no easy way to strip paint IMHO. You can sand, scrape, use a heat gun and/or chemical stripper.

The best choice is often what works best on that particular project.

The good thing is if the old paint doesn't want to come off easy...mabye it doesn't have to.
Try peeling it with a hot heat gun and use the technique with the best and easiest result. Sometimes this requires staying in one area a while and lifting hot. Sometimes heating it and letting it cool a few seconds works better.

Then sand the edges after cooling, before primering.
A random orbital on the flats saves the shoulders. If in doubt, use lower(bigger grit) and deal with the scratches later.
