I'm doing a remodel in the kitchen but am finding it difficult to match the finish/paint technique used on the cabinets. I think it is some type of pickling. Check out the pics... any help is greatly appreciated.
Since the counter looks blue, maybe some watered down blue paint, applied and quickly wiped off everything but the seams. When dry poly top coat.
Total guess on my part.
To me it looks like the wood was aged and turned grey, then the flats were sanded to reveal mostly new wood while the groves and deeper areas of the grain were left grey.
I agree with toolseeker.....one way to confirm....open up a door and look on the backside. If it does not have the blue....then it was done as tool described.
I've used a similar technique with black paint on dark stained woods...
I've not seen pickling done quite like that. Looks like some gray stain/pickling heavy in the grooves with just a touch of the gray on the doors themselves. This is one of those times where you will need to do quite a bit of experimenting on some material similar to what's on there now. I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but, to get a good match that's what you will have to do.
