Painting a sliding closet door

I have a 2-door sliding closet door that appears to be a luan, and is varnished. We are redoing the interior doors/trim/moulding in the entire house, (all painted white) and now this closet door does not look so good. I feel that I have three options:
1. lightly sand, then paint the existing doors
2. Buy new luan closet doors and paint.
3. Buy two panneled doors (to match new bedroom door) and paint.

Thoughts / comments?

Painting a sliding closet door

if you are ok with the flat doors then lightly sand, prime then paint. If you want the raised panel doors then replace. No need to replace luan with luan.
