i was wondering if painting regular SPF lumber with outside enamel paint and then protecting it with aluminum flashing will make it weatherproof significantly longer.
i want to build my window frame box of 2x lumber but i'm not supposed to use PT cause PT reacts with aluminum badly, supposedly. as for vinyl lumber, i cannnot seem to find 2x, only 1x (Azek).
Are you wrapping the board in aluminum flashing so that the it's protected from direct sunlight? If so, I think I'd still prime first, then apply an exterior enamel - make sure all 6 sides of each board are completely coated, then countersink nail heads and fill with putty...With that system, yes, it absolutely will "weatherproof" the board significantly longer.
