Painting a red brick fireplace with rough brick exterior

How will this brick anew work on a fireplace with the rough exterior types of bricks? Can I still clean, primer, latex etc? Will it look ok? Any extra steps needed?

Painting a red brick fireplace with rough brick exterior

Hi Lori, I think you need to explain you're situation a little more clearly. Is brick anew a product? You say rough exterior, are they outside? Did you mean to insert a pic that didn't come through?
