Painting Plywood

Previous HO used Plywood for Door Jambs. Coated them with a thin layer of mud, and then paint. Due to expansion, contraction, the paint was cracking. All Linear ..

I have gone aheaded and sanded it all down. There are some dents I will need to bondo on and sand smooth. I plan to just prime with Xim Peelbond (1x or 2X) and then paint ontop.

Will the paint hold over time or will I still experience the cracking due to different expansion/contraction rates ?

It's my understanding that this is more ~highlighted~ as it's not solid wood, but plywood....

Would'nt it be easier, better, to replace with real wood ones?

Not really. The jambs are screw ....rock is mudded flush to it.
The style is caseless doors with Frye Reglet Revel to it.

What a mess.
Post a picture. To me any of your terms made no since.
Plywood is great, but not for jambs. It leaves the end of the plywood exposed.
Trying to apply mud over plywood is sure to fail.

In answer to your question, Peel Bond Primer is excellent in expanding/contracting environments. Be sure your topcoat is satin or semi-gloss, 100% Acrylic that will have the same coefficient of movement.

Personally, it sounds like an architectural nightmare that I would rip to the studs, insulate and re-wire as needed and start all over. :)

Good luck!
