Painting Outdoor Wood

I reframed my garage door jambs with 2x8 womanized lumber. The lumber was used (used to support a deck). Any suggestions on what kind of outdoor paint would work best for this? Also, do I need to prime with the suggested paint and/or sand?

A friend told me to check out flood solid color stain. Anyone ever use it?

Make sure the wood is dry and sand it down to a good substrate. Now prime it with a coat of long oil primer. (I like to spike the primer with Penetrol for bare wood). Now apply a couple coats of premium acrylic paint.
