painting on outdoor trim

Hi everyone. I have a picture of the trim around my back patio door. I want to ask if you all think this wood is too far gone to paint over. It still seems like it holding together, and it's only the bottom part for which the paint has come off and the wood is slightly warped/rotted. The rest of the trim is fine. In any case, I suppose I'd like to paint over it and re-caulk.

Paint and chalk will not fix that problem, it needs to be replaced first
sorry

So it'd be wrong to believe that painting over what's there will prevent further deterioration of the wood?

Whats below that hole ?
If there is wood below that you may have more damage
While caulk & paint may hold it for a while it will eventually start leaking again
And that may cause more damage in the long run
