Painting a new table white...

Hello,

I just bought a new table for the front entrance of my house. It is the perfect size and type, except I need it to be white, to match the trim in the entrance.

The table looks similar to this one.

Can anyone suggest the best way to get a smooth finish in white?

My dad suggested using a melamine paint. I'm wondering if I can use the BM latex I have. And i'll need to buy a primer as well.

Or should I spray it? Any suggestions for the best spray paint?

The trim i'm matching to is a semi-gloss, not sure of the best finish for the table. Something durable I guess.

Any ideas?

Thanks

If you want a super-smooth finish on furniture, you will need to use a product specifically designed for that use. Really, your best, highest-quality, least aggrevation bet might be to take it to a professional furniture finisher, who will spray the item with the appropriate product. Otherwise, check out a woodworking forum for further advice.

You just can't get a super-smooth finish using trim paint and a brush. You can get a good finish, yes; even a fairly smooth one, but not something I would associate with fine furniture.

Hopefully your table is not the same fine table as your pic, it would be a crime to paint such a fine piece.

It is a beautiful table and I'd love to have it just as is for my foyer. I'd never consider painting it. Nice wooden furniture has a depth, luster and richness that cannot be matched with paint.

If she is selling it, we may have a fight on our hands I would buy it in a heart beat.

haha, well mine isn't that fancy. less detail.

it was $75 at Winners (a department store in Canada)

i'll see if I can get a pic of mine up. you'd see how it clearly needs to be white.
