painting latex over oil based paint

macoretta1 Newbie   Join Date: Jul 2012 Posts: 1	painting latex over oil based paint I am painting latex over oil based paint that has also been feather dusted! I used Behr paint and primer after washing and sanding the walls - I have had no issues but I only did one room and now I have the rest of the house to do 2500 sq ft - should I be using oil based primer first?

Gymschu Member     Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Eastern Ohio (heart of Appalachia) Posts: 1,683	painting latex over oil based paint Usually to cover any possible problems, I prime the oil based paint with Zinsser 123 or any other quality bonding primer..........latex primer is fine. Wouldn't hurt to scuff sand the walls before applying the primer. Then topcoat with 2 coats of your favorite latex paint.
