Painting Kitchen Cabinets
Hey all whats up? I actually am very new to the whole remodeling and do it your self around the house thing. BUT we just started giving the kitchen a face lift and the lady is really set on painting the cabinets a off black color with a semi glossy finish... any one have any suggestions on this? Here are the pictures of the cabinets them selves.
the wood is actually pretty soft in some ways so.. anyone have any suggestions for paining them ... like preparations or any brand names that would be good?
Do some research, there is a ton of info on the web about painting cabinets! Use the search bar on this forum to look at older posts regarding this same question! I think the people on this forum are tired of answering this same question again and again! Thanks and good luck!
Sychopants is right - there are quite a few cabinet tutorials out there, but so many people only turn to these forums after something has gone horribly wrong, I have to applaud you pro-activeness Bootz. Here are your basic steps: 1)Thoroughly wash all the surfaces you are going to paint with a degreaser like TSP.
2)Remove the doors and all hardware
3)Give them a light but thorough sanding
5)Sand and tack cloth
6)Finish coat with sanding and tacking in between when necessary.
General thought - use quality paints and primers from a reputable paint store. Don't be tempted by coatings from Home Depot. Feel free to ask more questions here as they arise.
Then do you think we can sticky this? I mean if there are so many out there lets put it up at the top
I have the same questions. I do research but there are many answers to the same questions. Brush?Spray?Roll?Latex?Oil? I love my Home Depot store but I'm not sure if the people in the paint department are "experts". To whom do I turn?
I would go to a Sherwin Williams, Ben Moore, Pratt & Lambert etc.
A real paint store.
As far as technique it really is what you are set up for.
Do you have a sprayer? Have you ever used one?
Are you proficient with a brush? Will that give you're the look you're going for?
And what's "off black" ?
