Painting kitchen cabinets?

I admit, I am not the most experienced handy-girl, but I want to take my '77 kitchen cabinets from dark stained wood to white. I have a sander, but am wondering if I actually need to sand every little piece, or if I can just start painting. Any good news for me?

Do a lot of research on this. It is very difficult to paint cabinets and have them end up looking really nice.

There's a new product on the market by Rustoleum for painting kitchen cabinets and counters. It sounds easy. I have not used it. Just saw it in Lowes. You might look into it.

Painting kitchen cabinets?

I painted my dark wood kitchen cabinets a year ago, and used STIX acrylic bonding primer. It is really good stuff. Even drips on a not too clean kitchen stove were hard to get off. However I did do a light sanding with fine grit paper to rough up the glossy finish that was on the wood.

BTW, I used high gloss paint for the final (2) coats, and tapped lightly over each coat with a grout sponge just before it dried. Removed all drips and brush strokes. It turned out well, still glossy but a uniform texture, hiding any flaws.

First step will be to fill in all the old holes that will not work with new hardware then you will want to thoroughly sand and then prime with an oil primer then sand again, in between sanding you should wipe with a tack cloth, after this is done then you can get to two coats of topcoat, I recommend spraying through this process but I understand that not everyone will be able to do this.
