Painting interior fake wood paneling

I am looking to paint our mud room (back porch area). All the wall are paneled, there are 3 different shades of paneling here ranging from cherry to light oak.

My questions are:

1. Do I need to sand the paneling at all for paint to adhere?

2. Should I prime?

3. If no to the priming if I use 2 coats or so to cover is the darker paneling going to show up darker when finished?

Thanks in advance
