painting inside window

Everything in the kitchen is oak, oak and more oak. Can I paint the inside OAK window to break up the cabinet, window scheme. I was thinking of painting the window white or a cream to match the walls when I paint them. The window in set between 2 oak cabinets. UG...so much oak
Thanks so much!

Sure you can paint the oak.

Why would you question whether or not you could?

Andy.

If you are going to be painting oak you will want to first prime it with an oil base primer, otherwise the water from the latex paint can raise the grain.

I agree with everyone, and will expand on housepaintingny to recommend a bonding oil primer, such as cover stain, or BIN shellac. This will cover the bases in the event a proper scuff, over what's probably clear coated, isn't achieved.
