Painting exterior wood house
I recently moved into my into my newly built home 2 1/2 years ago and notice that my exterior paint is cracking and there is substantial mold that I have to clean every year on the back of my house which does not get much sunlight.
Can somebody recommend the specific paint I need to use and also steps to paint the house so that I do not have to clean the mold?
I know I should first wash off the mold, but do I need to prime or can I just start painting over the existing coat?
Thanks in advance
You don't need to wash off the mold
You need to kill the mold
Kill it dead
Dead, dead, dead
Then you can powerwash the dead stuff off
I'd recommend a Jomax mix, the recipe is on the can
You can also use a bleach and water mix
Normally, if you are repainting with the same type of paint, you don't have to primer
If you have cracking, that depends on how bad it is
If you scrape off any loose stuff, how much primer is showing? Bare wood?
What you find will determine your next course of action
Any good quality paint line from a paint shop (Ben Moore, Sherwin Williams, Sikkens) will do, and in your case I'd ask the mixer to put a shot of m/m treatment in the can before shaking it also
