Painting an Entertainment Center

I have a built in entertainment system that is varnished oak. I hate it! Very dated. If I prime and paint it will the heavy oak grain make it look cheap?

Since you say the varnished oak looks dated, what's the surrounding room like?

If its more modern I think painting it a flat or satin black would look nice.

That all depends on the brand of primer and paint you use. How many coats you use. Type of application used. When I paint Oak I try to do my best to not get grain in my enamel finishes...................Go to your local paint store. Not big box store and ask the reps there for more details. Since your out west I would recommend Kelly Moore..................... Good Luck...
