Ok... so I have these two coffee tables made out of particle board with a wood-like finish that I would like to paint. What would be the best type of paint to use? Should I sand or prime the tables first?
My dad is a construction painter and says that I shouldn't bother trying to paint them because it will just bubble and not work right. Is this true??
Well, he's got a point
If it's the cheapo knock-down (you assemble) stuff, it's basically a picture of wood "laminate" glued to particle board
If you use a latex primer, it will bubble
You could do a quick, light coat of a solvent based primer and it might not affect the glue
If it's the slightly better than paper fake wood laminate, you'd still need to use a solvent-based primer
Lightly sand, if you can w/o messing up the laminate, and then dust before priming
