Painting ceramic tile

I need some info, Thank You.

1) What type of paint, and can I thin it?

2) Tile prep., should I acid wash, and what type acid/cleaner?

3) Grout, can I remove it and replace after paint, or should it be prepared and painted with the tile?

4) Can I use a low pressure high volume sprayer?

Thanks again, Mike

Some Qs for you Mike

Floor or wall?
Why do you want to paint tile?

It's not easy to keep the paint on ceramic tile
And really not recommended
If it's for a floor I wouldn't even hope it'll stay long

If you really want to attempt it, it'll be sanding for prep, a specialty bonding primer, then brush and roll the paint on, two coats
But I wouldn't recommend it...unless you've got some unusual circumstances there

For walls, lightly sand the tile to knock the gloss off. Then apply Zinsser BIN primer and two coats of paint. BIN is the best thing I've found to adhere to ceramic. I also wouldn't attempt it on a floor.

Thanks Slick and Poppa
I will be installing new floor tile, but couldn't get them to bite on the walls.
It's 2 8'x8' open ended shower walls 4''x4'' tiles.

It's for someone else?
No warranties on that then
Put this in writing - make them sign it

On walls, with the BIN, it might last for a while
But still - waiver it
Those Home Makeover shows never come back 6 months later when the tile paint-over has failed
Customers think it's an easy, cheap, permanent fix
It's not
Well, like I said, it could last a while

I've had one lady do this with BIN and Accolade. I've talked to her about a year after the project and it was still doing fine. That's no guarantee though. Just because it works once doesn't mean it's foolproof.

Thanks Everyone
They are going to mirror the walls now, Thank God. Its at an adult club for shower shows so everyone will get a good view from all sides now!

Thanks again
Mike

Yeah mirrors would be much better for that!
