Painting ceiling problem:

I'm not a pro painter but have been doing general remodeling and lots of painting for almost 40 years. Have a pretty good grasp of surfaces, prep, tools, paint, application.

I had a local contractor build a small addition, bedroom and bath: they did all the framing, drywalling and mudding, I'm doing the painting. Painted the bathroom ceiling with white latex satin (very small area) absolutely no problem. The bedroom ceiling is giving me fits!

The mud was finished and plenty dry (two weeks). Applied a nice even coat of Kilz 2 White Primer & Sealer using a good quality Purdy 3/8" roller cover. It did not dry with quite the uniform finish that I'd expected, but it's just primer and I assumed that the finish coats would do the trick.

Using a new Purdy 3/8" cover, I applied a good solid coat of BEHR Premium Plus 1-gal. Flat Interior Ceiling Paint from Home Depot, about $24 per gallon. Cross-rolled as I went along, not too much paint and not too little, very careful of roller marks and such: as I said,I've done this once or twice before. Let it dry 24 hours.

The result was very streaky, just looks like tons of roller marks. I got another gallon, applied another coat this time with a Purdy 1/2" cover: used the right amount of paint, cross-rolled as I went along for good coverage, very careful about stop & start roller marks. Same darn result! Just looks streaky & blotchy.

Any ideas or suggestions much appreciated.

Use Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams ceiling paints instead. Good Luck!

I agree with the Behr statement. Years ago when I was a novice I used Behr and I fought it the entire time. Got educated and wise, plunked down the cash and got SW. Won't use anything else.

LOL, I hear you guys.

I thought that on top of good primer, and using two coats, it would work. But I have reached the same conclusion: it is sh***y paint!

Just went and got a gallon of Benjamin Moore and a new roller cover, back to it tomorrow morning.

Painting ceiling problem:

its hard to say with out seeing it ,you could have over rolled your paint into paint that was starting to set up giving you lap marks.mabey the sheet rock finish is not as good as you think. Should use a 1/2 nap cover .. one thing I do know is its not the paint .

The problem with those guys is they're going to say the problem is the paint whether it is or not. And of course you're saying it's not.

Actually I've never used the Ceiling Paint, per se, only the regular paint. So I really have no idea if the paint is any good or not. However I've never had any problems with Premium Plus Ultra on any walls.

The pictures you see above are not of ceiling paint, and therefore aren't relevant.

Comments like the following are worthless:

"Years ago ...I used Behr... Got educated and wise...got SW."

Experience with a paint from years ago is irrelevant - the formulas have changed. Also doesn't mention which Behr paint. SW is not a paint - it's a company. There is no such paint as "SW", so that comment is of no help either.

In my old life I used Behr ceiling pain many times and two coats did fine, never any issues. Now I like BM Super Spec flat. Relatively cheap and blends really well.

Yes it does. OP you are seeing the exact reason why Behr gets so many complaints.
