Painting a bifold door

I'm going to paint my closet doors for my closet. They are a bifold paneled faux wood set. Is it best to paint them on the hinges and tracks. I asked because I have removed paneled doors before, thinking that it would be a simple project, only to learn a lesson in door sagging and carpentry.

I paint them all the time IN PLACE. Ttwin, you are correct in that they can be all but impossible to reinstall properly. As long as they aren't louvered, you can paint them quickly with a good 2 1/2 inch sash brush and a 4 inch Whizz roller.

Thanks for the advice.

Painting a bifold door

I painted 3 sets of bifold louvered doors in our house about 15 years ago. They were dark brown stained and we wanted them white. I scuffed them up, used an airless sprayer and primed and painted with the same latex paint as our trim paint. I also hand painted the 6 panel doors. I don't know what spraying does, but the doors held up beautifully and I haven't touched them in 15 years. Anything that was hand painted has been repainted a few times due to fingerprints, dust, etc, but for some reason, spraying the doors sure makes they more durable. I have no idea why, but I would defiantly spray them. I hand painted louvered doors once, and it was awful compared to the sprayed ones. So smooth and even. Highly recommend spraying, much easier too, did mine outside.

Tip when you spray louvered doors spray louvers then turn upside-down and spray again.

Sorry, somewhere I thought I read they were louvered, but that wasn't mentioned by the OP. If they aren't louvered, I'd paint in place too.
