Nope…make sure it's clean - sand the rough edges of the existing paint flush with the floor and paint away. Happy painting.

Thanks again for everyone's reponses. One last thing in terms of the floor as a whole do I necessarily have to sand the whole floor since is not particularly glossy or can I get away with a good cleaning?

Just lightly with some 100 or 120 grit, you are just creating a rough surface for the new paint to bond too. Afterwards, you will need to get all the dust cleaned as well.

Ok. Will do. I have a pole sander I can go over it with so I don't have to get down with my Palm or belt sander. Unless you think a floor sander in necessary.

Ok well I think I went a little overboard with prep. I started sanding and wire brushing the lease paint and certain areas that I didn't think we're loose came up. I got worried so I decided to get some stripper and strip the floor. The paint must have been well adhered for the most part bc areas I tried the stripper on would only come up with a lot of wire brush work. So I got fed up after wasting a whole day and rented a floor buffer with a 15 in diamabrush coating removal wheel. Did a nice job of removing the bulk of the paint. After that I hit the remaining paint spots with a knot cup wire wheel on my grinder. The steps I had to use the paint stripper and lots of elbow grease. Vacuumed then hit the whole floor quickly with a pole sander with 100 grit. Vacuumed again. Tonight I'll give it a good cleaning with dirtex and patch any problem spots. Once it dries I'll hit the vacuuming once more and paint with a 2 part water borne epoxy.
