Painting 2 x 4 studs

I my "mechianical room" (furnace, water heater and laundry), I wanted to remove the drywall and paint the 2x4's and the inside surface of the drywall on the far side of the studs.

Do you see any issue with painting the 2 x 4's?

If not what paint/primer should i use?

thx allot!

They're just wood, should be no problem. Depending how far you want to take them, prime and 2 coat everything.

What your suggesting may be againt code.
Reason being most areas require fire code 5/8 sheetrock in a furnis room.

Should use a sealing primer, or a sealer first if they are pine or fir studs. Shellac any knotholes so they do not bleed through at the very least. You will need to paint the drywall before you paint it too.

Joe raises a good point about the fire code. On the living side of the furnace room you most certainly need 5/8. Perhaps not where you are on the side to the basement or whatever. Check code to be certain.
