I have a concrete block wall. I have painted it with Loxon XP water repellent. It needs another coat of paint. Loxon is very expensive. what can i use over it to thoroughly cover the blocks. surely there is a cheaper water repellent on the market.

Denney, I feel your pain. However, I don't think you'll find a comparable product for much less, a couple bucks at the most. If you go too cheap, that's what you'll get. You obviously have a concern about moisture if you're using it versus standard paint. Personally, I would appreciate the peace of mind I'd get for the extra bucks. You're only doing it once. Beside, it's possible you could have compatibility issues with another product. Not being a chemist, I can't say for sure if the first and second coat of Loxon XP don't depend on each other specifically, chemically, to form a waterproof coating. Just hand the guy your wallet, ask for it back when he's done, and look the other way. That's what I do.

If you have a solid coat of Loxon on the block than you can use any latex on top of that. If you need more Loxon to cover some light spots or to jut even it out than you can thin the Loxon down some with water. That will actually help it flow into the holes better.

Latex Primer: Good for Drywall, that's about it.
Behr Paint: The plastic buckets are good, that's about it.
