Painters Tape: Can I leave it for a bit before painting

Hello, hope ur weekend's been good.

So Ive taped the whole room up laboriously around the megaton of molding and 7 foot windows. By the time we were done was too late for painting. Will return in 3 days to edge and roll with primer.

Is a few days much too long to leave scotch blue on the trim? (no paint applied yet). I know its not ideal, but wondering if its a huge problem.

thanks folks!

Painters Tape: Can I leave it for a bit before painting

As a torture-test...
3 yrs. ago, I did some Poly-ing on our laundry-room window trim downstairs. I had taped-off the inner wood trim from the outer casing.

PURPOSELY left tape on 3 MONTHS...ALL SUMMER. Window got some late-aft. sun every day.

Came off perfect...NO residue/lifting of existing Poly, which had been on for a few months. I had pressed tape down firmly too, across the whole width of 2" tape. This was the REGULAR 3M Blue, not the delicate-surface.

It really depends on the surface its applied to and how well whatever its applied to is adhered to whatever is underneath that. I've seen it pull off huge sections of paint. A little heat with a hairdyer will help loosen it a little and a LIGHT pass with a sharp utility knife in corners can help in stubborn spots. Remember to pull at a 45 degree angle at a moderate speed without any jerking motions.

Personally I think cutting with a brush produces better results if you can do it. Its worth the practice to get it right.

If you end up painting, and overlap the tape, either remove the tape when the paint is wet, or use a razor knife to score the edge of the tape to prevent lifting the paint.
